"For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed helping and taking care of children. It wasn’t until my oldest daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia that I realized that helping children who struggle with dyslexia and other learning difficulties would become my passion. Once she was diagnosed, I become a mom on a mission. I wanted to learn all I could about dyslexia and how to help. I spent many years reading, researching, and searching for answers. I knew that I didn’t want to only help my children, but as many children as I could."
Alyssa recently finished her first year training in S.M.I.L.A. Learning about the science of reading and a multisensory approach to teaching reading was an incredible experience for Alyssa. "I love getting to put my training to use and watching children light up when they finally 'get it'. I set out everyday to not only help kids grow academically, but to be a person that they trust and depend on when they are having 'one of those days'."
She tells all of her students when they enter her room, “This is a safe place to not know. Mistakes are how we learn.” She looks forward to helping as many children as she can become more successful, confident readers so they can grow to be the best versions of themselves.
